Poland

Poland is located on State Road 42 in eastern Clay County. Poland was founded in 1841 as a trading point. It was named for James Alexander Poland; he was the settlement’s first blacksmith. A grocery/hardware store and post office sit in the center of the community. The post office opened on January 20, 1846.

The Poland Historic Chapel and cemetery are on the National Register of Historical Places. The chapel was built in 1869 and has a Gothic Revival style. The chapel and the adjacent cemetery both sit along SR 42.

  1. The other day there were three people at Hauser who asked me when you were going to visit another town. I had no idea it'd be Poland!

By the way, who took the photo of you and the sign?

  2. I'm glad to have loyal followers at Hauser! Poland was actually part of the Spring Break trip; therefore, it was Mom who took the photo. I'm still catching up on those posts. I will soon be journeying (hopefully next weekend) to Morocco and Egypt, which are a little over an hour away from Valpo.
